ICS-220
The ICS-220 Iridium Communications System
is a full services aeronautical communications
system incorporating dual channel Iridium
full-service transceivers with a Short
Burst Data (SBD) modem for dedicated ACARS
DataLink services in a single LRU. Additionally,
multiple handset ports and CTU features
provide a stand-alone, comprehensive global
communications system. The ICS-220 permits
connections of conventional telephony
devices or legacy CTU systems via standard
2-wire ‘Tip and Ring” circuits
or 4-wire audio connections. CTU features
include intercom calling, call transfer,
conferencing and follow on dialing. Designed
into a small 2-MCU LRU, the device can
be installed on any size of aircraft either
as the sole communications facility, or
as an additional, or restoration communications
service. The ICS-220 system provides inexpensive
global voice service and data communications
up to 2400BPS via a serial port connection.
ACARS services can be accessed via ARINC
429 connections to DMUs or MCDUs. It is
the ideal solution for aircraft requiring
no more than 6 telephony connections and
seamless global communications services
without the inconveniences of hand-offs
or no service areas.
